Reminder: SafeSport Requirements for Athletic Trainers and Strength & Conditioning Coaches

As the 2025–26 USA Volleyball season approaches, the Old Dominion Region would like to remind all clubs of the SafeSport and membership requirements for Athletic Trainers (ATs) and Strength & Conditioning Coaches (S&C coaches) participating in USA Volleyball activities.

These roles are considered high-risk categories under SafeSport, as they involve regular contact with or authority over minor athletes. To ensure compliance and protect all participants, the following requirements apply:

For Club-Based Trainers and Coaches:

• Must obtain full USAV membership

  • Trainers: Old Dominion Adult – Non COACH – SafeSport & Background Screen Required, (9/01/25 to 8/31/26) CLUB ADMIN ONLY).

  • Strength & Conditioning Coaches: Old Dominion Adult Coach of Juniors, (9/01/25 to 8/31/26)

• Must complete both a background screen and SafeSport training, regardless of employment or contractor status.

For Event-Based Trainers:

• Must obtain an event membership with USAV

  • Old Dominion Adult Event Worker – SafeSport & Background Screen Required, (9/01/25 to 8/31/26)).

• Must complete a background screen and SafeSport training prior to working at any event.

These requirements also help ensure that insurance coverage through USAV remains valid.

Club directors are asked to share this information with their staff and ensure all trainers and S&C coaches are properly registered and compliant before the start of the season.
